Since the introduction of new domains there has been many speculations among the business owners about the reaction that the search engines might have issues in turning up the search. There was an assumption that new domain extensions would reduce the ranking in the search engines. There have been many researches to establish the fact about the effect of domain on the search results but to date nothing has been established.

SEO is said to be mainly based on the keywords, but it has also been found that the domain also has an impact on the listings on the search. The general assumption that has doing round is that it has a negative impact. People do not like being redirected to other addresses. The research that was conducted was conducted on a well-known brand and hence the impact was not clearly understood. A known brand is known to bounce back no matter what and they have an established market and customer base.

Also, there has been news that Google is realigning their algorithms so that websites with domain extensions have the same chances of top listing as the .com domains.
  • Having relevant domain extensions is a necessity. Irrelevancy will lead to lesser customer conversion and more confusion. It is important that there should be a relevant name usage so that customers can relate it to the brand rather than feeling the disconnection.
  • The domain should be short and precise to make an impact.
